Sunday afternoon writing (and a links summary)

Had a bit of time this afternoon so I hit the keyboard (repeatedly). As a result I've taken my ya supernatural novel, Breath of Imagined Dead, up to 18,190 words, with 2,453 of them having been added today. Not a bad afternoon of writing. Unfortunately it's my first writing time this month.

For all my inner promises (and I may have mentioned it here or on social media) that I was going to try a NaNoWriMo this month I was a little doomed by having some work (day job) and other functions to attend every day/evening since the start of the month. I'm not trying to make an excuse. I'm going to give catching up the day average a try this week as my wife is away on a work trip for two nights so I'll have a little time.

The real aim though is not just maintaining a daily average for an arbitrary challenge. The real aim is getting the draft finished. I'd like to have this story written before Christmas which means adding a further 72K in 7 weeks if I'm going to be sticking to my 90K target for the novel. It's not an unachievable target. It'll just take a bit of work. Let's see how it goes.

Regarding the first book, it's now been out nearly a week and it currently available through 3 platforms - Amazon, Smashwords and Kobo. I can't resist posting the links (some of which I've done already I know) so here they are

It managed to sneak into one of Amazon UK's top 100 charts the day after it was out - in the category "Kindle Store > Books > Children's eBooks > Literature & Fiction > Science Fiction, Fantasy & Scary Stories > Scary Stories" peaking at number 74 and only just behind one of Darren Shan's books.

I took a screen shot so I could remember it. Here it is

Seeing that made me happy. It's dropped down a little since, now sitting at 240 on that list. Now I know it's a pretty specific list but I was still ahead of a number of other titles so I'm happy.

Other than that I've had another interview go live - this one on Jamie Marchant's site. Here's the link

And for good measure here are links to the other interviews

I did mention in the title to this blog entry there would be a links summary so for good measure I'm going to add a link to my twitter feed - it's where I tend to post any news first.

Is there anything apart from that to report? Maybe. I did my usual book hunt yesterday although it wasn't the most successful - I only managed to find 3 new books to add to my collection, one Tolkien (Beowolf), one Jasper Fforde and one Mercedes Lackey. Was never going to keep up with the 20 or so the week before.

Anyway I'm going to end this now. It's getting on and I need to get ready for the day job tomorrow. That and I need to cook some food.
